PhD Economic Sociology

Incoming 2018

From the Universidad Nacional de San Martín (UNSAM)

Research Project: The Argentinian Automotive Sector during the 21st century. Relationships between its Actors and the National State.

My name is Bruno Perez Almansi and I am an argentinian Researcher (Universidad Nacional de San Martín, Instituto de Altos Estudios Sociales, Centro de Estudios Sociales de la Economía) and master's student in Economic Sociology at Universidad Nacional de San Martín in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I study the argentinian automotive sector during the 21st century and the relationship between its actors and the National state. I spent ten days living in Cologne thanks to a joint Mobility Grant from the DAAD Network "Remapping Global South" and the Global South Studies Center Cologne (Universität zu Köln) as well as the Instituto de Altos Estudios Sociales (Universidad Nacional de General San Martín). During my stay, I had the opportunity to attend and speak at the Synthesis Workshop "Impact of MNEs on Upgrading Value Chain - A comparison of three case studies: Guangzhou, Cape Town, Buenos Aires". This was a very interesting experience because we could exchange ideas with geographers, economists and sociologists from Germany, China and South Africa and allowed us to know other cases of study and discuss about the different theoretical and methodological frameworks from which they are studied.

Also, I presented my current research at the Institute for Geography (University of Cologne) where I received different comments and suggestions from the researchers of the Institute which improved my thesis and my professional skills. My experience in Germany also involved visiting libraries and archives that provided me with very important and unpublished material that I could include in my thesis.

On the whole, it was a fundamental step both in my current research and academic career and a stunning human experience. I want to thank, on one hand, professors Ulrike Wesch and Javier Revilla Diez from Universität zu Köln for being so close, generous and supportive during the entire period and, on the other hand, the very welcoming students of the Universität zu Köln.
