Research Project: A Qualitative Study of International Students’ Experiences through the Social Identity Model of Identity Change, during the Initial Phase of Transition to China.
My name is Rameez Raja. I am a Pakistani National and currently pursuing a PhD degree in Sociology from Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China (SYSU). I was nominated by SYSU to participate in the winter school in Cologne from 9th to 19th December 2019. During my stay in Cologne, I found it super productive in terms of learning new research techniques as well as enhancing scientific writing.
I have attended all sessions of the workshop and learned a lot from various researchers that ultimately helped me in the articulation of my research thesis.
There were sessions of “PhD Writing Strategies”, “Writing a Scientific Article” as well as presentations of the research projects of all participants involved from Argentina, China, India and South Africa.
These sessions were followed by a very intense workshop on “Grant Proposal Writing Course for Young Researchers” performed by Birte Kathage and Reinhard Klein-Arendt from ProWiss. Here we learned how to write a grant proposal and how the reviewer look at your proposal including the financial statements, budget, and fund utilization.
It was a memorable event of my life, and I came across some lovely people and became friends with young researchers from Argentina, India, South Africa, China, and Germany. I would like to thank the University of Cologne and DAAD for making it happened.
