PhD Sociology

Incoming 2019

From the Universidad Nacional de San Martín (UNSAM)

Research Project: Cultural Consumption and Representations of Culture in Non-Metropolitan Cities.

My name is Melina Fischer, I am a Sociologist with a Master degree in Sociology of Culture, CONICET Fellow and Ph. D student in Sociology at the Universidad Nacional de General San Martín (UNSAM). I am also a professor at the same university. My research topic is cultural consumption and representations of culture in non-metropolitan cities.

I spent ten days living in Cologne in December 2019 thanks to a joint Mobility Grant from the DAAD Network "Remapping Global South" and the Global South Studies Center Cologne (Universität zu Köln) as well as the Instituto de Altos Estudios Sociales (Universidad Nacional de General San Martín). During my stay I attended to the Workshop “Academic Writing – Perspectives from Argentina, China, India, South Africa and Germany”, with some young scholars from those countries. The workshop included a lot of presentations by University of Cologne's professors, public lectures, presentations by the workshop's attendants (including myself) and a Grant Writing Workshop for Young Researchers. It was a great opportunity to learn about grant proposals and academic writing strategies, improving my professional skills. Finally, It was a unique opportunity to know about the research topics of other colleagues in different countries of the Global South.
