Events

The network „Remapping the Global South“ organizes different types of events that respond to different needs graduate and PhD students and the participating academic staff.

One succesful and major event are the fieldschools that take place two or three times per year and are accompanied and organized by the speakers of one of the five thematic research areas.

Another event are workshops dealing with a certain topic like „Student protest(s) in the Global South“ as well as follow-up workshop of longer field visits like „Transformations in the Cologne/Ruhr Area“. Here students and staff from the respective partner universities present their empirical data and discuss possible outcomes in forms of MA or PhD theses.

Academic training workshops are designed to improve the presentation, publication and application grant-writing skills of selected PhD/Master students from UoC and partner universities. From 2015-17 each year eight students from all partner universities are invited to participate alongside a similar number of students from UoC in these academic skills training units.

Another measure that is also crucial for the regional, national and international visibility of the network is the organization of lectures at the University of Cologne as well as the participation of members of the network in international conferences.
