From Myths to Race and Racism: Tracing Southafrican Myths and decolonization in Postmodern literature

My name is Pauline Kosasih. At the University of Cologne I am doing my Master in English and Media Studies.

The scholarship of the GSSC within the DAAD-Network "Remapping the Global South" provides me with the opportunity to do my research at the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, Southafrica.

During my stay I examined the concrete projection of racism and violence in literary theory. I wanted to investigate the roots and recent developments of racism and bodily and violence from a psychoanalytical and literary perspective. My research project is connected with the thematic research area „Migration and Translocal Relations“.

It was a great experience to spend time for my research project in Southafrica which is on the one hand a very diverse and prolific country on the other hand a country which still struggles with racial discrimination and social disparity.
